This week, I will turn 56.
That’s half a century… plus six more.
This is new territory to be sure, a journey that snuck up on me when I wasn’t looking, and one that has been a roller coaster of a ride since it arrived. If there’s a theme to this new chapter in my life, it’s revelation, and I’m talking about the BIG, shake-your-foundation kind of revelation that has had me shining a light on even the darkest of corners in order to find the healing that’s calling my name.
In the beginning, I thought that healing might come in the form of better organization or a more practical work schedule. More money, more time, more focus on the task at hand. A different and somehow better version of me, one that was more decisive or more courageous or just, well… more.
But what I’m realizing is that THIS isn’t THAT at all.
No, this brew I’m cooking is about something much deeper, and much more transformational.
It’s about making space to practice the life you want to live.
And if you think that sounds very woo-hoo, well, you might be right. I suppose it can be a very spiritual experience if that’s your thing (and fair warning, my journey will almost certainly have some serious woo-hoo to it).
But it doesn’t have to be spiritual or rather, it doesn’t have to be a woo-hoo sort of spiritual if you’d prefer it wasn’t, and I think that’s part of the revelation. It’s more of a moving from a “working/dreaming/planning for X” kind of mindset, to one where you are actively creating the reality you want to see.
It’s a decision to move from HERE to THERE, and that then begs the question:
It can’t really be that easy, can it? Surely, this kind of “leveling up” requires more than just a small tweak to your disposition…
To which I reply:
Shouldn’t we at least try to find out?
